The Coat of Arms signifies that our Scotch-Irish ancestors were fighting men as their motto, “Semper Praecinctus” means Ever Ready. The three scallops indicate that they took place in three crusades. The gold signifies that they participated at their own expense. The ancient Irish stag shown on the blue field is the emblem of their being great hunters. The crest, or large escallop. portrays that they were “Blood Fighters” extraordinary.
This text has been taken directly from James Harrison Millholland's original work.

It started with George Harrison Millholland who authored a book titled "The Millholland Family in America" in 1955. My father had a copy which I reproduced and gave to Stephen Anthony Millholland. I believe that sparked Stephen's interest in genealogy. As his first effort, Stephen took George Harrison's original book and extended it to include the additional families that were born after George Harrison's book was published. He gave it to me as a Christmas present.

Continuing with that first volume, Stephen found enough additional information to require another book and he published an expanded version in hardback in 2009 titled “The History of the Millholland Family." This volume included photographs, obituaries, and further details about the family. Again, it was a Christmas present.

To further his research, Stephen subscribed to Ancestry.com, took Ancestry's DNA test and subscribed to Newspapers.com. They opened up new avenues of discovery.

We visited several cemeteries: Rose Hill in Cumberland, MD, Green Mount in Baltimore, MD, and Charles Evans in Reading, PA. These travels led to the discovery of additional family members and their associated dates. I might add that these trips were all Christmas presents some included my wife Patricia Barno Millholland and sister, Sue Millholland Martin.

This latest book includes many photographs, obituaries, and additional facts about the family. It starts with the original James born in 1761 and his descendants to the present day. Each family has been traced separately with particular emphasis on the James Allaire Millholland family.

Stephen found time to author a book on his mother's family titled, “My Mother's Family However It's Spelled.” It was meant to be a Christmas present, but printing problems made it a Mothers' Day present.

They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time. Hopefully, this book will keep our ancestors' names alive a bit longer. I am glad that I made some contributions to this book.
