Obituary for William McIlvaine Millholland, Evening Times (Cumberland) Oct. 15, 1952

William M. Millholland, 67, a former resident, died recently at Birmingham, Ala, following a lingering illness.

A son of the late James A. and Virginia Millholland, he was a brother of the late Randolph Millholland, Sr. He moved to Birmingham in 1924, where he was employed by the McWane Pipe Company until his health failed in 1941.

Besides his widow, the former Miss Estelle Llewellyn of Cumberland, Mr. Millholland is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alma Cullen, Birmingham and Mrs. Harriett Jordon, Delaware, KY; a brother, Allen Millholland, Fishkill, NY, a sister, Miss Martha Millholland, Washington; and a nephew, Col. Randolph Millholland, this City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Estelle B. Millholland, 80, of 1301 31st St. were held at 2 p.m. today at Johns- Ridout’s Church Chapel.

Mrs. Millholland died Sunday in a local hospital. A native of Cumberland, Md., she came to Birmingham in 1924 and was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Cullen of Birmingham and Mrs. William C. Jordan of Owensboro, Ky.; a sister Mrs. Virgil Minton of Kingsport, Tenn.; and a brother C.M. Llewellyn of Bedford, Pa.

Obituary for Alma Llewellyn Millholland, The Independent (AL) February 26, 2004

Alma Llewellyn Millholland Cullen, 96, of Orange Beach died Feb. 15, 2004, at a nursing facility in Foley.

She was born in Cumberland, Md. to William McIlvain Millholland and Estelle Llewelyn Millholland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lawrence Cullen.

Survivors include her daughter, Norma C. (Frank) Vines of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Lewis K. (Mildred) Cullen of Birmingham; a sister, Harriette M. Jordan of Calhoun, Ky.; three grandchildren and, three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 17, 2004, at Bayview Funeral Home in Foley and Rev. P. Burns officiated. Burial was in Pine Rest Memorial Park. The family received friends prior to the service.

Arrangements were by Bayview Funeral Home Foley.

Charles Lawrence CULLEN, age 91, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at a local hospital. Mr. Cullen was born November 13, 1906, at Tanner, Limestone County, Alabama. He was the son of Harold Dempster Cullen and Bessie May French. The Cullen family came to Birmingham in 1912, where Mr. Cullen attended Phillips High School. He attended the University of Alabama and Birmingham Southern. On November 20, 1927, he married Alma Llewellyn Millholland of Cumberland, Maryland.

In 1935, he went to work for Liberty National Insurance Company where he worked until his retirement as Assistant Vice President in 1968. Mr. Cullen saw active duty in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the LCS 52, at the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Survivors include his wife of 70+ years, Alma M. Cullen of Orange Beach, Alabama; son Lewis K. (Mildred A.) Cullen; daughter Norma C. (Frank L.) Vines, all of Birmingham; granddaughter Laura E. Vines of Micaville, N.C.; grandson Mark L. Vines (Cindi Arms) of Austin, Tex.; granddaughter Cynthia L. (John D). McKay of Birmingham; great-grandson Michael McKay of Birmingham; great-granddaughter, Erin Vines of Austin, Tex.; one brother, Frank H. Cullen of Naples, Fla.; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, July 3, Rideout's Valley Chapel at 9:30 A.M. Visitation: Thursday, 5:00-7:00 P.M., at Valley Chapel. In lieu of Flowers, the family suggests donations to the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge Land Acquisition Program, c/o The Nature Conservancy, 2821 Second Avenue South, Birmingham, 35233.

Lewis K. Cullen, 87, of Orange Beach, AL, died Sunday, May 5 with family by his side. Lewis was born in Birmingham, AL on February 2, 1932, to C. Lawrence and Alma Cullen. He graduated from Ramsey High School at the age of 15 and attended Birmingham Southern College. Lewis worked for Liberty National Life Insurance in downtown Birmingham for 35 years, retiring as a 2nd Vice President in 1980 at the age of 51. He served in the Naval Reserve for 10 years. In retirement, he stayed busy by volunteering for the Thorsby Police Department and was extremely active as an amateur radio operator and Lewis was also involved with Air Force MARS. He made many phone patches for military aircraft back home to their families while the planes were flying their missions in Desert Storm. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief. He had a fantastic sense of humor, was extremely technologically literate, and enjoyed a good “rare” steak dinner with family and friends. Lewis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred; daughter Cynthia (John) McKay of Orange Beach; grandson Michael (Emily) McKay; sister Norma (Frank) Vines of Homewood, AL; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Obituary for Frank Lane Vines, Birmingham News (AL) February 20, 2010

VINES, DR. FRANK LANE, age 77 of Homewood, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Born on April 22, 1932, in the Snow Rogers Community of Gardendale, Alabama, he graduated from the University of Alabama in 1953 earning his BS Degree. He went on to Graduate from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1957. Dr. Vines served as a Captain in the Dental Corps of the United States Army. He was a member of the 1st Battle Group, the 17th Infantry, the "Buffalo Unit" serving in the peacekeeping forces at Pusan, Korea, and at Camp Kaiser, Korea above the DMZ and at Fort Benning, Georgia from August 1957 until August 1959. A man who loved his practice and considered his patients family, Dr. Vines practiced dentistry in Homewood, Alabama from 1957 until his retirement in 2000. He loved fishing, gardening, was an accomplished boat builder, was an inventor, and a pioneer in the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence W. Vines, and Mildred Ferguson Vines, and two brothers, William Vann Allen Vines, and David Milton Vines.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Cullen Vines; daughter, Laura Ellen Vines of Fairbanks, Alaska; son, Mark Lane Vines (Cindi Arms) of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Erin Arms Vines, Ciara Arms Vines, and Lucas Lane Vines, all of Austin, TX; beloved collie, Danny; 3 aunts, Beryl Ferguson, Frances Ferguson, and Beth Ferguson Tippin; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22nd at the Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. The family requests memorials honoring Dr. Frank Lane Vines be directed to Homewood Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 513 Columbiana Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood.

CALHOUN, Ky.: Services for William C. Jordan, 51, of Beech Grove, former assistant manager of the Social Security office at Owensboro, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Elba.

The Rev. James 0. Lively pastor of Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Boston Cemetery. He died Friday in Vanderbilt Hospital, Nashville, after a short illness. The body is at the Muster Funeral Home, Calhoun.
